And the Wall Came Tumbling Down
Photos and words by Salina Christmas

Taxis waiting for passengers outside the main train station at Alexanderplatz.

My journey back to the days of my early youth continues in Berlin, after my Istanbul sojourn in December last year.

The Wall came down in 1989, when I was 17. It was the year I made up my mind about who I was to become, and what I needed to abandon to be where I am now. I was a bookish high school student in a small town in Malaysia.

I was different and I had begun to question the sociopolitical system I was brought up in.

The fall of the wall inspired me.
