My Mum's Kitchen Garden
Photos and words by Zarina Holmes
My mother is a passionate kitchen gardener. She came from a poor but educated farming family. Her childhood was surrounded by homegrown vegetables, chickens and ducks.
Our famlly moved to the suburbs but my mother never left her rural gardening heritage. She taught me how to rear chickens. Collecting eggs after school was a normal chore. When I was five, she helped me grow my own watermelons and corns.
This is a banana leaf. I love it's translucent nature. All photos in this reportage were taken around my mum's house in Malaysia.
