Smiling Faces
Photos and words by Richard Bull

This person was the daughter of the ferocious female owner of a small restaurant.

The daughter of said dragon (who no doubt has killer smile and laugh when work is over) was carefully preparing a tray of gifts for a Tihar puja, carefully counting out rice grains to fold into a leaf, carefully counting out (in English while I mirrored in Nepali) fine strands of cotton to form a janai which crosses one shoulder and goes round the torso, and there must be six strands.

Anyhow, among an nation of predominantly brown eyes, pale green. She was from Mugling and had no idea why her eyes were so.

I am continually astonished by the range of faces Nepal can present.

Richard Bull is a photographer based in Nepal.
