These workers demonstrated on Christmas Day to demand the government to raise wages in parallel with the rising inflation.

The irony was not lost on me — minutes away are the multinational and local fashion chains lining the Istiklal high street.

The more reason for all of us to figure out together how to put an end to this dog-eat-dog financial instability that affects so many of us around the world.

Thanks to globalisation, when an economy gets hurt somewhere across the waters, another economy elsewhere gets hurt, too.
