This is not a man's boat
Words and photos by Salina Christmas

This is Ian Sumter. He was the captain of the men's team at Sons for a brief period. He was the one who asked me to cox there.

He went to the studio for this shoot straight from work. After what seemed like a thousand frames, I asked him to hold out his hand to the camera.

Your hands get shredded to pieces gripping and turning the handles of the oars. I had nasty hard skin on my palms which didn't go away for months when I started rowing.

Sometimes I wonder why people do it.
