Between winter 2005 and spring 2006, I went back to Kensington & Chelsea College to study basic photography and portraiture.

The lecturer, Graeme Harris, told us to find a subject to photograph. I was doing a lot of coxing at that time and decided to stage this shoot of rowers.

I didn't want to shoot them in lycra tights and windbreakers. I wanted them to look beautiful. So I told them to dress up. It was very cold.
