Come 31st August 2008, Malaysia will celebrate its 51st anniversary of independence.

Whether my country gained independence, or was let go by the British, is open to debate. What is certain is that a deal was brokered between the British and the elite class to make sure the ruling political factions are divided by ethnicity. Not ideology.

What we get is a poor imitation of the British institutional monarchy. And a right-wing political system that is an affront to democracy.
