On
the breadline
Photos by Kess Bohan
It's a pricing problem,
not lack-of-food problem. What we face now is manufactured
scarcity, thanks to the way our foods are commodotised like
oil or gold, and 'hedged' by bean counters, and also the way
the markets are manipulated by commercial food cartels and
supermarkets.
When I used to stack shelves at ASDA,
I threw away a lot of good food. Why? Any designer would tell
you that in-built obsolescence is essential to trends, turnover
of goods and consumerism. Food is no exception. They don't
call it "sell by date" for nothing.
