The GM lobby groups are forever arguing that we need genetically engineered crops to solve the problem of the booming urban population and starvation in poor countries.

Why does the West assume that the people of poor nations are too stupid to realise that actually, that Thomas Malthus theory of overpopulation is a tired old 19th Century notion concocted during the Industrial Revolution? And that it is only relevant to a small, overcrowded country like the UK? Pretty handy for scare-mongering, no doubt.

There is enough food for everyone.
