On the breadline
Photos by Kess Bohan

Even rich countries are not immune to the price hike. In the UK, for example, there is a debate over biofuel. According to the Guardian, as of April 2008, 2.5% of the diesel and petrol sold in the UK must be made of plants, because apparently, we're running out of oil. This figure is expected to grow to 5.7%.

The agrochemical industry, always quick to capitalise on these things, is now engineering crops that can be used for food and feed as well as biofuel.

Either way, that industry wins. And we get screwed.
