In 2007, the Egyptians suffered an increase in food prices caused by a 30% hike in fuel prices in July that year, and a bird flu outbreak, according to the Arab News.

Egypt is no stranger to political upheavals. You only have to read the Bible to learn more about its colourful past.

But a food riot - or at least a food protest - will be a first in its modern history.
