On
the breadline
Photos by Kess Bohan
The most populous country
in Africa and the Middle East, Egypt has some 75 million people.
The staple food is bread. According
to Egypt's Central Laboratory for Agricultural Expert Systems,
the agricultural sector accounts for 20% of the gross domestic
product (GDP), 20% of total exports and 36% of employment.
The arable land is limited, the rainfall
is less than 100mm in the norhern coastal region, and the rest
of Egypt is pretty dry.
