Burn Baby Burn: The Pyrotechnic Celebration of
Las Fallas
Photos & Words by Gregory Lecointe
Like the toreros, the Valencian pyrotechnicians master their
art in the realm of the superbe, where not only the visual
display matters but the rolling drums of the explosions also
mark the beat of a gigantic flamenco.
Everyday of the festival, at two in the afternoon, The Mascleta is a set piece of five minutes during which you are advised to open your mouth in order to protect your ear drums.
Physical experience, my whole body responds to the madness of those genius pyromaniacs. As their bullfighting counterparts, once the final blow is given, they parade in front of us claiming their ears and tail trophies
