Getting to and around Tibet is a pilgrimage in itself.

it is easier to get a public bus or hitchhike. A journey from Chengdu, China, to the eastern border takes three days.

Any useful tips to survive this?

"You don't want to get tired as you need your energy," says Jon, " And get a pair of earplugs."

A decent accommodation with hot shower can cost around £3 per night. Jon recommends staying at guest houses. The staff's command of English is basic. A good command of Mandarin goes a long way here.
