Tibetans call their homeland Bod. The English word is derived from the Arabic word Tubbat. This originated from the Turkic word Töbäd meaning 'the heights'.
The staple food is tsampa, roasted flour dough served with meat. According to Jon, it is easier to "stick to dumplings, or familiar Chinese food" if you are not gastronomically adventurous.
