Words by Zarina Holmes What makes a good party?
A.Great company (your friends and friends' friends)
B. Great music (great DJs who are also your friends)
C. Great buzz (viral recommendation from trustworthy friends) Legopops is the London party sensation du jour. Friendly and intimate, creative friends contribute by entertaining each other, creating a sparkling and 'idiot-free' scene. Promotions are viral via 'word-of-mouth'. If you haven't heard of them yet, you better know someone who knows. The outfit is made of London-based Italian trio, Francesco Marani, Filippo Gallignani aka Filo Mena and Enrico Rosica. It began two and a half years ago after Francesco and Filo, two university chums, moved to London where their appreciation for music and the clubbing culture started to develop. Very soon they began hosting house parties with over 100 guests in their back garden. The turnouts were so successful that they had to hire venues around Old Street and Brick Lane in East London. They were later joined by the third LegoMan, Enrico, a DJ and event organizer, who had jokingly suggested that Legopops should operate as a proper club event. And the rest was history. It seems that the Legopops has nailed the formula on how to provide a feel-good all night fun for hard working London friends. The initial parties in East London are occasionally extended to venues in Italy. Unlike typical London club scenes, the parties normally end around 5-6 am to suit the Latin mood.

What I like about Legopops is their clear creative direction and concept. From the inception of their brand identity using Lego bricks in the promotions, to the e-mail newsletter sent out to loyal followers, everything was meticulously researched. They have also developed a distinct signature sound of tech house and minimal electro. The creative brains behind it are Filo Mena and Enrico, who is a vinyl aficionado. Legopops frequently collaborate with other DJ friends too, complimenting each other styles. "We love to hear Bruno (Let's Frolik) play after 2-3am. He plays deep tune which is great for later part of the party when people are really in the mood," said Francesco. Like an art collective, Legopops experimented with themes. Recent party held in February, Legopops Venezia, saw may guests turning up with original costume ideas. So what is next for Legopops? Francesco envisages collaborations with other form of arts such as photography and fashion. The spirit of Legopops is reflected in the three fun-loving founders. "We just want people to have fun and feel happy," explained Francesco. It looks like Legopops are enjoying themselves, every brick of it. www.legopops.com
