"Emirates' move to ditch its inflight magazine in August to save fuel was welcomed by green travellers."
Inflight Magazine
Reviewer: Zarina Holmes

Very few inflight magazines impressed me. I have never left an aircraft thinking, "Boy, that was a great inflight mag!".

They camouflage themselves as some sort of "travel" or "lifestyle" magazine but only plug the destinations they fly to. Also they are stuffed with property and cosmetic surgery ads.

At least you are presented with higher quality photo editing with BA or Virgin Atlantic mags. But still you're subjected with dreary articles such as where so-and-so theatre actress shops for her rugs in Marrakech.

I wonder if the commissioning editors chose the subjects out of some office lucky draw.

I do develop occasional amnesia and find myself tearing a page of "What's Hot To See" from low-cost airlines magazine, only to discover that the recommendations are rubbish.

Inflight magazine is a product of last century. Emirates' move to ditch its inflight magazine in August to save fuel was welcomed by green travellers. Apparently it would save up a tonne of weight per flight.

The much-preferred alternatives are inflight entertainment and internet connectivity. Maybe music download, online blog, taxi bookings... whatever - be inventive, guys! I'd rather bring my own trash magazines onboard and take them away with me.
